Why We Go On Trek

We go on Trek to strengthen our faith in Christ. That is the main purpose. The stories we hear, the experiences we reenact, the very footsteps we trace, all lead to that purpose – strengthening our faith in Christ.

Trek is like no other experience. When you stand on that holy ground, the spirit touches you like nowhere else on earth. In some ways it is very similar to being in a temple – there is a feeling of peace and strength and love. Standing on the wind-swept hills of Wyoming, you feel those same things, but there’s also a distinct spirit there – a spirit of sacrifice, a spirit of total devotion to God.

President Hinckley said, “It is good to look to the past to gain appreciation for the present and perspective for the future. It is good to look upon the virtues of those who have gone before, to gain strength for whatever lies ahead.”

Trek gives us a perspective we can’t get anywhere else. When we visit the sacred trails our pioneer ancestors walked, it helps us put our own lives in perspective. It helps us know what is important, and it helps us dedicate our lives to Christ, just as the pioneer’s were dedicated to Him.

Yes, Trek is hard – we walk a long ways, working together to pull our handcart across the dreary landscape of Wyoming. But it is one of the most powerful, life-changing experiences you will have, and it will strengthen your faith in Christ.
